A Cat Was Involved by Spencer Quinn

by Barb Goffman

292/366

Individual short story available on Amazon (Simon & Schuster 2012) and probably in other places, too.

This story is a prequel to Spencer Quinn’s delightful Chet and Bernie series. Anyone who has read any of the books in this series knows that Chet, a big goofy dog, came to be the sidekick of P.I. Bernie after Chet flunked out of the canine police academy. Chet had been doing great until that very last day – right before graduation – when something happened with a cat that Chet can’t ever quite remember. Well, in this story, you get to see what happened and you learn just how Chet came to be paired with Bernie.

For anyone who hasn’t read this series, it’s great. Chet is the narrator, but he doesn’t talk aloud. He’s a real dog trying to help Bernie solve his cases the best he can, using his canine senses.
