Twenty-one Days by Leslie Wheeler

214/366 from the anthology Deadfall (Level Best Books, 2008)

A woman and her boyfriend have a terrible argument. Her psychiatrist tells her to give up on him. If she can go twenty-one days without thinking about him or going to places they went together, she’ll get over him, the psychiatrist tells her. The specificity of this advice seems very odd. Eventually you find out what the doctor is thinking.
