Romero’s Shirt, Dagoberto Gilb, THE MAGIC OF BLOOD

by Patti Abbott

Romero is a second generation American living in El Paso. He barely makes ends meet and prides himself on having few wants. When an old man, crossing the border from Mexico, asks him for some yard work, he obliges and feels proud of himself for this kind act. When he notices his favorite shirt is missing, even though it’s just a shirt, his good deed sours for him. Wonderful story. PA
