The Sneaker Tree by Terrie Farley Moran
by Barb Goffman
I’ve once again fallen behind in my posting. Here come several days’ worth of stories.
From the anthology Murder New York Style: Fresh Slices (L & L Dreamspell 2011)
This well-written, heartfelt story begins with a NYC-area teenager, Cat, dealing with her mother’s unexpected death from a heart attack. Then comes 9/11, and her mother’s death seems to pale in comparison to the tragedy at the Twin Towers. But Cat’s best friend, Miranda, never forgets. We see how the two girls remember Cat’s mother every year. And we see how the girls grow while still relying on each other. And we see how one of their lives takes a horrible turn when she marries a loving man with a sociopathic son. And we see how the power of friendship can help one do the right thing, even in the face of grave danger.
This story was worth the price of this book, which has 21 other stories.
