“Lost Souls” by Clive Barker

Story 83/366

Clive Barker has become one of those writers whose name is synonymous with horror.  (The label he uses for his work is “dark fantasy” or “fantastique.”) The Hellraiser and Candyman movie franchises were based on his novels and other works are in development. Barker went through a real-life horror story last month after a visit to the dentist ended in a severe case of Toxic Shock Syndrome that left him in a coma for a week. “Lost Souls” is a tale of a demon in New York identified by its smell of burning hair and halitosis and the rotting stench of veal left in the sun.
