“The Way the Red Clown Hunts You” by Terry Dowling
Terry Dowling is an Australian writer, game designer and journalist who refers to himself as an “imagier,” one who imagines. Although he shuns genre labels (hence the all-purpose “imagier” designation), he primarily writes speculative fiction. This story is beautifully crafted (“jestermorte” is my favorite new coined word) and even the title is scary. The story appears on the Subterranean Press website. Amberjack: Tales of Fear and Wonder, his most recent collection of short fiction, was published by Subterranean.
