Story 227/366
Along with “The Ransom of Red Chief” and “The Gift of the Magi,” this story is anthologized everywhere. I read it first in elementary school and read it again today on East of the Web. I remembered the twist, but not the bittersweet part of it. The writer was often compared to Guy de Maupassant–both wrote short stories, often with twist endings, but for me, Henry is the superior writer.
See you tomorrow!
