Story 332/366

This is just a dazzling science fiction story that plays with tense in a way that’s dizzying. I missed this story when it first ran on A Twist of Noir, but snagged it for the Nightfalls anthology. You can read the story here.

Story 326/366

This is an incredibly strong story that would be worth it just for the evocative phrase, “After her screams dried on the wall.” It’s a story of a family legacy. This story appeared on A Twist of Noir in September.

Story 214/366

I’d call this story “spec-noir” if I had to label it, but that’s what’s so great about pulp, it transcends labels and was mashing genre up before it was cool. This is a story of a woman wronged and a revenge served bloody. You can read “Future Past” at Pulp Metal Magazine. You can read more of Christopher’s work at A Twist of Noir.  Illustration by Walter Conley.

“The Things We Do For Love” by Patti Abbott

04.14.12

Story 104/366

When it comes to Patti Abbott’s short fiction, it’s hard to pick just one story to single out. In the last year I’ve read her collection (Monkey Justice), her stories on Spinetingler and Beat to a Pulp, and A Twist of Noir and in the Grimm Tales collection. She is just all over the place spreading the awesome. And then there’s this story which rocks the second person POV in a perverse tale of kinky love.  You can read this story at Shotgun Honey. You can read her “Dancing with Myself”  interview with herself on Nigel Bird’s Sea Minor blog here.

From the beginning of his career as a cop, Doug had been warmed about the bimbo-basement dilemma: You screw around on your wife, she’ll find out, and you’ll end up divorced and only being able to afford living in a basement. So when ya think about screwing around, you better decide if the bimbo is worth the basement. Well, Doug thinks he’s found a way around that …

This story is a finalist for this year’s Derringer Award in the flash-fiction category.

Casanova Succumbs to Two-Ton Tina, Rob Kitchin, A TWIST OF NOIR

by Patti Abbott

A humorous story about two cops in Ireland trying to rescue a missing vibrator from beneath poor dead, Tina. Great dialog in this one.
