“The Fisherman and His Soul” by Oscar Wilde
07.19.12
Story 199/366
This is a long tale, the theme of which is basically, “be careful what you wish for.” The language is poetic, and the conversation between the fisherman and the beautiful little mermaid he loves is almost biblical, full of “thees” and “thous,” which sound very vintage mixed in with his narration. While not as emotional as “The Canterville Ghost” the story is still extremely emotional. You can read it here.
