Pain (what a great name for a writer) was a journalist, poet, and writer. “Rose Rose was originally published in 1911. I found it in The Oxford Book of English Ghost Stories. It’s pretty typical of the era (late 19th century, early 20th century) in that you see the twist coming way before it arrives.I don’t think it’s available online but you can find the text of his story “Public Scandal” here.
