I am an unabashed China Mieville fan. I read Kraken first and then The City & the City and then … everything else. His latest novel, Railsea, is a fabulous conceit, his sci fi version of Moby Dick. This story, a father/daughter tale, definitely fits the “new weird” designation that’s tagged Mieville’s work. The writer builds a whole world in this story, a world with its roots in Japanese movie monsters and real-world oil spills. you can read the story here.
